Tyler Kim Named Managing Director, Weber Shandwick North Asia
Weber Shandwick announces that Tyler Kim, current Managing Director, Korea, has been appointed to the role of Managing Director, North Asia. This appointment formally extends Kim’s remit to also include the firm’s Japanese operations. Darren Burns, President, China and Chair, Creativity & Innovation, will continue to oversee Weber Shandwick’s operations in China.
Working closely with leadership teams in Japan and South Korea, Kim is charged with driving business objectives across both markets. Hitoshi Shioya, currently Managing Director, Japan, will assume the role of Vice Chair, Japan.
With over 25 years’ experience in strategic communications, Kim has been successful in growing Weber Shandwick’s Korean business from a single employee to an office employing over 100 staff. Under Kim’s leadership, the business doubled in size in its first year of operation (2009-2010) and has since grown by more than 60% in subsequent years.
“Tyler’s forward-thinking, client-centric approach, has been key to his success as a leader within our Asia Pacific business,” said Baxter Jolly, chief executive officer, Weber Shandwick Asia Pacific. “His track record building our Korean business has been widely recognised not just by the firm, but externally in award programmes, too. With Tyler at the helm, supported by two very strong local teams with highly specialised skills, our offering in Japan and Korea will be greatly strengthened over the coming year, and beyond.”
In the past year, Weber Shandwick’s work for Korean online job portal Alba Chunkuk has received six awards; including Top 40 Best PR Campaigns 2017 at The Global Sabre Award, Japan / Korea PR Campaign of the Year at PR Awards Asia and Campaign of the Year at the Asia Pacific Excellence Awards.
